FAQ

How long does the CBT last for?

A CBT is valid for 2 years.

Can I take a theory or a practical test with an old style paper licence?

Yes, as long as you bring along valid ID such as a passport.

What if I do not bring both parts of my photo card licence or a passport with my old style paper licence?

You will not be able to start the CBT and will lose your course fee.

What if I turn up late for the CBT?

CBTs will start promptly at the time indicated on your confirmation letter.  If you turn up late,  you cannot participate and you will lose your course fee.  This is because a CBT needs to be done in a certain order, if you have not done Element A you cannot go on to do the rest.

If I book a DAS course am I guaranteed to take my test on a 500cc motorcycle?

If  your instructor feels that you are not at the required level to ride this machine you will complete your training on a 125cc motorcycle.

What if I do not complete my CBT in one day?

People all learn at different speeds and if you’re not quite ready at the end of the day you can come back completely free of charge, as you paid for a whole course, not just the day!  For exceptions to this offer, please consult our Terms and Conditions.

What should I wear on any training day?

If you have your own motorcycle clothing then that’s ideal. If not then strong trousers or jeans and strong boots/shoes, ideally protecting your ankles, are suitable.  We can provide helmet, motorcycle jacket, trousers and motorcycle gloves for the training.  If you turn up in unsuitable clothing (e.g. miniskirt, flip-flops, high-heels, vests, etc.) we will send you home and your fee will be forfeited.

What is the refund policy?

In order to cancel/reschedule without losing your fee, you will need to give us at least 10 days notice.  If you notify us less than 10 days before your training/course we will endeavour to reschedule you if possible, but cannot guarantee this.

What if we have to cancel the training?

In some rare cases (e.g. the snow is too heavy, our instructor has an emergency etc.) we may need to reschedule your course, maybe even on the day.

We offer two options: a full refund with our sincerest apologies, or a rescheduling at the nearest date possible.

Snow is a dangerous thing to ride on, we recommend any motorcyclist, especially a learner, to park up and hope it dies down. If we feel it is not safe for you to ride in we will cancel the day. Your safety is our highest priority and we will not put any of our customers at risk because it is easier and cheaper to continue in adverse conditions.  Rain is not one of those conditions, so please do not think the course is cancelled because of rain.

Is there any parking?

There is a limited amount of on-site parking.

How long does Module 1 last?

Module 1 test pass certificate expires when your Theory test expires, as you cannot do Module 2 without a valid Theory test.

Can I use a foreign licence to take Compulsory Basic Training?

No.  You must either obtain a UK provisional, or, if you hold an EU licence, obtain a UK counterpart licence.

Do all learner moped and motorcycle riders have to complete a CBT?

If you passed a car test before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped, but you do have to take a CBT to ride a motorcycle.

However, if you passed your car test after 1 February 2001 and you wish to ride a moped or motorcycle you will need to complete a CBT.

Where do I book the Theory test?

We are more than willing at 1st Place Rider Training to book your Theory test for you, but you can also book direct with the DVLA online or by calling 0300 200 11 22.
